Hi fellow Orwell Members :)

A team of 4 cylists and 6 crew are taking part in the Race around Ireland this year. I think an Article will be added to the site very soon.

A four-day, 24-hour cycle over tough terrain is something that no one on the team or crew
has ever done before, but it’s a challenge we are keen to take on and are determined to
master.

To name those you might know:

Tom Blennerhasset and John Latham - Orwell [Rider]
Aidan and Peter Doyle - Swords [Rider]
Caroline Martinez and Michael Hanley - Orwell [Support Crew ]
Laura Banfield - Swords [Support Crew]

The start date for teams is 8pm on Tuesday 14th September 2010.


It takes a lot of equipment and a lot of planning to keep the show on the road and the cyclists going 24 hours a day. If you think that you can help with any of these items or help us cover some of these costs we would be very grateful.


How You Can Help Us


- A camper van: As the race never stops moving it is essential for the riders to sleep in transit
while their teammates continue to ride. The price for a rental campervan is approximately
€1,000.

- OR If you have a campervan to lend us for the week we would be ever so greateful.

- Bits for our bikes and stuff for our cyclists: Lots of lights, lube, tyres, tubes, first aid kit,
batteries, spare cleats, massage oil, cycling clothing, rain gear... everything we might need to just keep going. We would really appreciate te loan of lights for the week and rechargeable batteries as well.

- Fuel for the riders: 2,170 kilometres is a long way to ride, and the riders are going to need a lot of calories to keep them going. Food, particularly energy bars and drinks are going to be
crucial. We will also accept donation of cakes :)

- Fuel for the vehicles: Just as for the riders, it’ll take a lot of fuel to complete this course
with two vehicles needed to transport the crew, the riders not on the road and all the food
and equipment they’ll need.

I just want to thank Patrick O'Brien and Conor Montague who, very generously, donated their club league winning to the team last night. That money is now earmarked for lifesaving sambos and coffee (and maybe some pastries) for the riders and crew as we struggle on through the night.
