Now that AW10 is upon us, it's time to consider some great vintage inspired looks as you swish by on your classic dutch bike.

Fabulous: Tweed, florals with black background with fine knits worn underneath, cable knit, brightly coloured hosiery, brogues, shoeboots, wicker baskets for the front, floral panniers (Basil.nl or Kitsch Kitchen) for the back, rain capes (Lidl did one last Spring), bicycle clips for the wider trouser legs this season, helmets if you must (joke), tweed plus fours if you can find them - wear with long socks and leather cycing shoes.
Tweed skirts - not too long though, same for scarves obviously.
I'd like to say silk, but with our climate you have to be practical.
Also - on the skirt theme, cycling ruins pencil skirts, so don't wear your best
Max Mara while cycling, buy vintage or inexpensive, and change when you get to your destination.
Sidi did some gorgeous flowery cycling shoes - thanks Aideen.
Practical does not have to be ugly - ever.

Not so fabulous: Shapeless murky anoraks, rucksacks worn underneath hi-viz vests, trainers, 3/4 shorts on either gender - seriously unflattering imho, supermarket baskets tied to rear carriers, baskets of any kind on the front of mountain bikes - gents bikes especially, fleeces as outer layer - unflattering, shapeless and ugly,
jogging clothes in their entirety.
Horrible pannier bags (Altura bags do not fit onto the wider racks of classic inspired bikes -
believe me I've tried), bungee cords - downright dangerous when they wrap around the rear hub.
