TOPIC: Joe Daly

Joe Daly 1 year, 11 months ago #184

Condolences to all the Tansey family on Joe's passing. He was a legendary figure in the Dublin business community. Not only did he play an important role in the development of generations of club cyclists but countless Dubliners can thank Joe for providing their first bike. I was in the shop before Christmas and Joe was there, as he had been for so many years, directing toddler traffic around the displays. A little bit of old Dublin has been lost...

Sad news. He seemed like a permanent fixture, part of the fabric of Dundrum. Even before I got involved in cycling I knew that Joe was a Very Important Person around the village. The last time I saw him was at the cancelled Christmas race in Brittas, and I was looking out through Rudolf's eyes...

Condolences to all the family.

My last memory of Joe was when he helped me (along with Paul) after hitting the ice in Blessington just before the (cancelled)Christmas race a few short weeks ago. A true gentleman, ar dheis De a raibh a anam.

The Removal will take place tomorrow(Wednesday) evening, arriving at Holy cross church in Dundrum at 17:30.

The Funeral will take place after 11:00 mass Thursday morning to Shanganagh cemetery.
May he rest in peace.

Please could Orwell members who are coming to the Removal bring a club jersey to take part in a Guard of Honour outside the church.

Re:Joe Daly 1 year, 11 months ago #199

We have a new request for club members who will be attending the Funeral tomorrow to bring club jerseys again. Thanks to everyone who made it this evening, it was good to see so many of the club there.

It was an honour to have known him.

There's an article about Joe in the Irish Times.
