Hi all,

We've just had word from CI that they are looking for 20 cyclists to take part in the parade. If you don't already know, Stephen Roche is the Grand Marshall this year, as the Giro is visiting Ireland for the first time ever.

Apparently it is to be (approx) 10 directly following Roche representing his team, and 10 Giro cyclists at the end closing the parade.

We're not sure at this stage if the cyclists will be wearing Orwell club kit or will be given some matching customised kit, but you should have a full set of this year's design just in case - top and bottom. And as the parade inevitably features a lot of stopping and starting, so you should be very comfortable on your bike - clipping/unclipping etc. Ability to trackstand is an advantage!

If you're interested, please let me know before 15.00 today -

If we've too many, we'll pull names out of a hat.

Thanks to all those who responded, we should have a hearty Orwell contingent of all ages in the parade come Monday!

I've sent an email with meeting details to all those selected now. Apologies for the delay - we were waiting for details from CI, and I was at a wedding where the mobile reception was just lousy.

CI limited us to 10 riders in the end, so the final participants are:

Jackie Smith
Eamon Eaton
Bernadette Tansey
Paul Walsh
Jamal Ahmed
Sulayman Ahmed
Stephen O'Shea
Charlie O'Shea
David Swift
Chris Mollaghan

There were one or two work email addresses in there, so if anyone needs the email resent to a different address, please let me.

Well done to the Orwell cyclists who represented the club in the St Patricks day parade yesterday. Our new kit was partially hidden under our pink Giro T shirts but we still managed to keep the Orwell name visible on our sleeves and shorts. We navigated and negotiated the course with skill and ease and coped well with the downhill section of the course from Parnell Square into O Connell Street and the biggest climb of the day from Dame Street to Christ Church Cathedral. The full team were great ambassadors for the club and really enjoyed the experience. Now we are expecting 500,000 spectators for all or sportives and races for the remainder of the season. Thanks to all for a very social, enjoyable and memorable St Patricks Day.
