Monday 16th Nov (How to become a more confident and composed cyclist)
Monday 1st Feb (Mental preparation for race day)
Mon 22nd Feb (Developing mental toughness)

How to Become a More Confident and Composed Racing Cyclist

Whether as a novice or professional racing cyclist, we all experience the feeling of butterflies in our stomachs when we step on the start line for competitions. It is unavoidable that nerves and competition must go hand in hand and anxiety in any sport can be a hindrance or help. How we handle pressure during the race can be the difference between picking up that winner’s trophy, or walking away disappointed and frustrated.

This course begins by explaining what nervous means and how pressure affects the body and mind, paying close attention to the well-known and dreaded choke. Next, the participants get an opportunity to examine the situations that cause them to feel pressure in their races (even dealing with fear in the peloton or memories of past crashes).

Finally they get to learn some brilliant, simple and effective exercises to control pressure and boost confidence before and during races whether in the middle of a peloton, descending at speed or getting ready for the sprint finish.

Because all levels of cyclists experience pressure at some point in racing, this course is applicable to all riders. Coaches will also benefit from attending the workshop, where they will learn how to recognise the symptoms of anxiety in their riders, and instantly use tools and skills to help them take control of their nerves and help them develop more confidence.

This course is designed to be informative, with a large emphasis on practical exercises to teach skills and tools in a fun and interactive way.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will:
-Understand how pressure affects performance
- Recognise the symptoms of anxiety and pressure
-What confidence is and how to build it
- Learn 5 steps to control pressure
-Develop a personalised plan to develop confidence and stay cool and in control in any situation

I am very interested in your organised Sp P. talks. However I have work commitments every Monday evening and therefore I won't be in a position to attend the sessions. Would it be possible to get some feedback from the sessions please?
Thank you
Mary

Yes I would be delighted to attend, thanks Ann. First rule of psychology is not to react to Conor Mcgregor type trash talk and let results like the Hill Climb Championship speak for themselves

Ann I feel a seperately run intensive counselling session may be required for the Connolly brothers rather than drag the group down ...

We've had the nutrition talks, the strength and conditioning talks and the race training talks but an area of our race preparation that is often ignored is the psychological side. (Responsible for a massive 20 percent of performance)
Well now is your chance. This talk takes place next Monday. See the above thread for all the information about it.
