TREK WOMEN’S CLASSIC LEAGUE RUN IN CONJUNCTION WITH A3 ABILITY RACING
The new series, promoted by Cycling Ireland Women’s Commission with the assistance of leading distributor Centro Ireland and its top brand Trek, is an exciting addition to the Women’s calendar which will provide an important competitive outlet for the top women riders on the national road racing scene. We are delighted to have Trek associated with our league as we feel this is a perfect match for us. It’s particularly gratifying to have attracted the support of a company which knows and understands cycling and appreciates the great strides made in the women’s branch of the sport in recent years.
With participation levels at an all time high and climbing at an even greater rate than the male side, this is the perfect time to launch a series that recognises the commitment and quality of the performances by our top level road racers every weekend. Michelle Geoghegan of Orwell Wheelers is currently leading the rankings, and the next event is next weekend in Stamullen. UWA SPORTACTIVE ROAD RACE LEAGUE
The opening round of the UWA Sportactive Road Race League was held at the Phoenix GP at the end of February with Ciara Mulholland (Clann Éireann) using her fast finishing kick to take the win from multiple national champion, Geraldine Gill (Bohermeen). The second round took place at Aghagallon at the beginning of April. Negative riding from the scratch riders meant it looked as if those in the limit group would take the spoils, however in the closing miles there was a three rider break from scratch, Phoenix pairing Valerie O'Neill and Therese Smyth and Dromara's Mary Hunter made it across to the remaining limit riders out front. O'Neill took the sprint ahead of limit group rider, Kelly Donnelly (Spires CC). The league continues with round three this weekend at the McCann Cup, just outside of Omagh.
ULSTER BIKEWORKS TIME TRIAL LEAGUE
The Bikeworks Time Trial League will get underway on Wednesday 20th April at Woodgreen. Riders are reminded they must have a rear light fitted to their bike to take part in the league.
