Pat Conlon showed considerable class in his audacious late solo attack in last week’s handicap race in Brittas, attacking in the final kilometre and holding off the massed ranks of the scratch riders on the run up the finish at Oldcourt to record his first victory since his elevation to semi-scratch status.
His win was all the more notable for the fact that the first year rookie spent much of the second of two laps of the small lakes circuit clear of the semi scratch group with ace veteran Sean Bracken. After being hauled back towards the finish Conlon showed impressive powers of recovery to jump again within a couple of minutes.
Gary McNulty’s return to form continues apace as the powerhouse sprinter showed his strength with third place in the charge to the line.
Conlon defends a two-point lead in Thursday’s time trial which also doubles as the club championship ‘10’. As well as riding for points in their league categories, riders will also be pitching for club medals. Sign on and course details are available on the forum.
