Track Open Day - Saturday 10th May 2008

This is an open day for those who wish to try their hand at track racing. This session (incl bike hire) is free but you must hold at least a Cycling Ireland Club Licence. One day licences will be available on the day. Full instruction will be given by qualified coaches on how to ride a fixed wheel bike safely on the Sundrive Track. Following instruction and a series of drills and exercises, riders will obtain accreditation for racing - these drills are not too taxing physically, but concentrate more on how to do things correctly as is essential when riding a track where everyone is on a fixed wheel (without brakes). We will also run an accreditation session on Saturday 17th May 2008, then accreditation will be done by appointment only. Only accredited riders can participate in the Cycleways Track League and there will be no accreditation on Wednesdays. Ongoing training will also be held every Saturday morning from 10.30am also on Mondays from 7pm

No loose clothing should be worn - shorts or cycling gear are preferable, runners or Look shoes should be worn and helmets are essential. Hire bikes will be available for fee (free for accredtitations) and are fitted with the old type Look pedals so if this type doesn't suit bring your own pedals and our mechanic will fit them to the hire bike. Please note that cleats must be in good condition (nearly new) as pulling your foot out can have more serious consequences on a fixed wheel than would normally on a road bike. A Cycling Ireland Club Licence is the minimum requirement for tryout sessions, but a Full Racing, or Full Track Licence is required to race in the League. One Day Licences will be available for those who wish to race or for those who are not members of Cycling Ireland. IVCA Racing Licences are also acceptable.

Please note that training/accreditation starts sharply at 1 am and you must be ready to roll at that time, so please come at 10.30 to sign on and get set up on your track bike. A minimum of two coaches asre assigned for each session and they will be fully occupied once the session starts. Also if using your own pedals, it would be asdvisable to take them off in advance to avoid wasted time on the morning.

Information including the Track Rota / Track Calendar and news regarding any upcoming events will be posted on www.cyclingireland.ieTrack section and on our website www.trackcycling.ie.

Resurfacing

The resurfacing will definitely happen this year as the money has been allocated, contracts signed etc and our Chairman, Liam Walker has been at 10 meetings since Christmas regarding the issue as some final issues are being ironed out before the work can commence. All we can say for now is that it won't happen in May!
Structured Quality Training

Once we get things up and running we will be organising SQTs to improve peoples skills in the various aspects of Track Racing so we wont be running accreditations every week. As each year goes by we have introduced an ever increasing number of riders to track racing and this year want to help develop them to the next level. Details of our plans will be e-mailed to all and will appear on the forementioned websites
