Cyclocross Season 2022/2023

The new season dawns as the various provinces have released their provisional calendars.

Orwell have historically had a great turnout across all age categories and genders so would be great to keep this reputation going. From a competitive perspective, our women have stormed the cyclocross scene in recent years with Beth McClusky (2016 and 2017) and Lara Gillespie (2018 and 2019) taking the Elite Women's National Titles.

Luke McMullan is the new Club Cyclocross Rep so any queries can be forwarded to 089-258-4699. There is also a Club Cyclocross WhatsApp group so if you intend to get involved, you can be added to the group to keep up to date with any news or developments. It would be great to add some newcomers to the current roster.

Orwell, as one of the biggest clubs in the country in terms of membership, is doing our part in hosting Round 2 of the Leinster League. This will be on at The Gap in Glencullen on Sunday 23rd of October, so please keep the dates in that week free to lend a helping hand. We'll be asking for help from volunteers to act as marshals to aid the smooth and safe running of this event.

Below is the race schedule over the next 4 months. In particular the club should be very active in the Leinster League, but all races around the country are open for entry if you have a valid CI licence (Limited Competition).

Newcomers to the sport can take part in the B-Race and build up experience and confidence, and seasoned racers can take part in the A-Race, where good results will form gridding positions for the Leinster Championships (18-Dec) and ultimately the National Championships (15-Jan). There will also be separate underage races from U6 through to U16, so can form a good day out for the whole family.

Looking forward to seeing you all out in the muck and hills over the coming few months.

Luke
