Round 2 of the Appleby Orwell Women's Crit League will take place this Tuesday the 16th of April in Corkagh Park

Sign-on opens at 18.20 and closes at 18:50 for the B/Y race, with racing beginning at 19:00 sharp. This gives the organisers to start racing promptly. Take note of which group you're in for A+/A or B/Y - see Groups below. If you missed Round 1 and are not on the lists below don't worry you can still come and race! If you have never raced before you will be in the B group. If you are racing the National or Intermediate League you will be in the A Race. If you arent sure then get in touch - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The B/Y race will start at 7pm with the Youths getting a small handicap. This race will be 20 mins + 3 laps.

The A+/A race will start at 7.30pm and will be 25 mins + 3 laps.

Be considerate of your fellow racers and the organisers, and get there on time! If you're not signed-on on time, you can't race.

Some advice on racing in Corkagh Park thanks to Brian Mc from the Club League posts:
If this is your first race, try arrive early and get some warm-up laps in. Get used to the twists and curves of the course, and what line is best. When in the bunch, remember that there may be a rider on your inside or outside, or both - don't cut across their line.

If you find yourself dropped during the race and getting lapped, please move to the side and let those lapping you go by.

Please don't compromise on safety. Any dangerous riding may result in disqualification or suspension. Bear in mind that there will be plenty of beginners on the track on Tuesday night.

For the finish, safety is the priority. Don't put your head down or close your eyes in a sprint, and make sure to keep a straight line so you don't take down anyone else who might be overtaking you. Keep riding through the finish line until you are well clear of the line before stopping. If you think you placed, come back and make sure the race organiser has your name.

Parking
The car park closes early at the start of the year, so you're better off to park outside on the road parallel to the N7. The club is not responsible if you're locked in while you're racing. See Corkagh Park INFO for the official times.

Valuables
Please be careful with your belongings on race night. Some people leave bags at the gate during the race. It would be much safer to leave them on the inside of the course at the finish line, as that is where most people stand and can keep an eye on the bags. Unfortunately we have had some cars broken into over the past year so please dont leave anything of value visible in your car.

Toilets
There are no toilet facilities available. You could try asking the caravan park nicely alternatively we have been able to use the toilets in the Green Isle Hotel in the past too.

See you all on Tuesday night!

Replied by Louise Keane on topic Appleby Orwell Women's League Round 2 - Corkagh Park
A blue sky, crisp evening in Corkagh Park with only a hint of an Easterly wind saw two great races tonight. Over 20 signed on to race the B Race and 18 for the A Race!

B RACE:
The B Race was run over 20mins plus 3 laps. 2 under 14s were given a small head start before the chasing group was let loose. The race eventually split into a group of 8 at the front and then was whittled down to a leading group of 5 and a chasing 3 fighting it out for the minor places. Well done to Katie Reilly who is under 14 but who stayed with the lead group and was aggressive throughout the race putting in several attacks in trying to get away. Ciara Wilson was almost dropped from the lead group with only a few laps to go but fought back to contend the sprint at the end.

It was Nikki Taggart of Arcane who is returning to racing after a long break who showed a great turn of speed on the final bend to sprint away from the pack. Nikki gets an upgrade to the A Race next week.

The chasing group of 3 also contained a youth rider - Emma Smith of Navan who won the second sprint to finish in 6th.

There are participation points for all the racers tonight with the top 8 getting the bonus points. The league table will be updated in the next day or so.

B RACE RESULTS:

1. Nikki Taggart, Arcane
2. Katie Reilly, Scott Orwell Wheelers
3. Hannah Tilly, Arcane
4. Keela McHale, Arcane
5. Ciara Wilson, Performance Science Ireland
6. Emma Smith, Navan Road Club
7. Kasha Gniado, Lucan CC
8. Aisling Ui Neill, Scott Orwell Wheelers

A RACE:
The A race was missing Round 1 winner Jennifer Bates tonight who is battling a cold but 18 other A riders signed on for what turned out to be a great 25 mins plus 3 laps. The A riders were given a third of a lap before the A+ were let loose. It took about 10 mins to reel in the A group. There was some aggressive riding from Aideen Keenan of Dublin Wheelers - who put in a couple of her traditional breaks throughout the race. Carolyn Hayes was also spotted as one of the more aggressive riders on the night too.

Special mention to Aaron Fox who only started racing this time last year in the B group and who finished in 5th tonight in the A Race!

A RACE RESULTS:
1. Autumn Collins, Team Torelli
2. Sofie Loscher, Sundrive
3. Jenny Neenan, Sundrive
4. Aideen Keenan, Dublin Wheelers
5. Aaron Fox, Scott Orwell Wheelers
6. Emma Porter, UCD
7. Beata Golczak, U/A
8. Claire Ni Reachtagain, Sundrive
