Congratulations to the 9 Orwell riders who completed their 600km Audax at the weekend! 8 of that group are now fully qualified for PBP - Valarie, Tara, Leonard, Andrew, Joe, Colin, John and Tony. Danny, not in the photos, has also qualified.

4 more riders only have 1 qualifier to go which will probably be the Coast 2 Coast 600 - Dave, Ken, Kashif and Michael.

Special kudos to Tara who cycled the final 370km on only 2 gears when her rear cable snapped!

at the start, Sunday morning 7.30am

In Silvermines, 182km in

If you are curious about PBP - what it is and what makes it so special - you can follow the series of articles Andrew Potts is writing in the lead up to the event. There are 2 published on the club website so far:

1. PBP - Intro, what it is and who is doing it
2. The National 400 review

I’m going through my final preparations before heading down to the start, probably every bit as nervous and excited as I was the first time, if not more so. While I’ve been here plenty of times before this will be the first time I’ve had teammates to ride with. I’m hugely proud of the entire gang for making it through the qualification process and getting to the start line, and honored to be riding with them this time around.

While no-one is ever truly alone or unsupported on an event with 6 or 7000 participants and twice as many supporters, it’s an altogether different thing to ride it as a group and all to be dependent on each other. If it all goes badly then the group can only be as strong as it’s weakest link, if it goes well we’ll be stronger than the sum of our parts.

We are all tremendously grateful for all of the support that the club has provided along the way, and all of the messages of support are very much appreciated. We’ll try to post occasional updates if and when we get the chance along the way, and hopefully by Thursday afternoon we will have 13 successful PBP finishers in the Orwell.

One of the biggest hurdles in any event is making it to the start line! PBP is one of the hardest events I know of to make that start - qualify to pre-enter, qualify again to enter! Keep your body working and your mind on track for 2 years and after all that then ride the 1250kms

It’s been a long time coming but the 13 Scott Orwell Wheelers taking on PBP have all started!

Good luck everyone! Live tracking is available here: LIVE TRACKING LINK

220k in and all going well. We’re pretty much bang on schedule, and everyone is still in good spirits. The witching hour is just approaching so things may go downhill rapidly, but for now we’re on our way to control number 3 at Fougeres.

Reality has bitten us a little bit on the last leg, in the form of a savage headwind. Everyone is feeling a bit sore at this stage, but we’re one quarter of the way round in 12 and half hours, so all is good.

The wheels started to fall off the wagon on the leg to Loudeac, with relentless savage headwinds leaving us all tired, sore and cranky, and struggling badly to stay on the schedule.
In the meantime we’ve lost Tony but found Michael, and we’re getting ready to head out on one last 75k leg to Carhaix before bed.
