Hi to all fellow travellers
Your adventure team are setting out the following plans, more in hope than expectation.
PLEASE JOIN US ON THE WHAT’S APP GROUP- FOR THE CHAT - THE LINK IS ABOVE.
At this stage, we are looking for expressions of interest for the “Ireland here we come - tour” stage one. Log your interest on the what’s app.
This tour is planned to leave Dublin, on a Friday, going south, via: Wexford, Waterford and returning by train from Cork on the Monday. We propose to sleep in tents, and to have a support car.
If you are interest in: 1 the tent, bikepacking or 2 a B&B version, please let us know which!
Also as soon as we are allowed, we will continue our adventure spins, be they: drive and cycle, or something more local. We have, a few, routes planned, for both.

On the ‘Ireland tour’ front, we propose; as soon as the island is open and the weather is favourable; to begin our circumnavigation of this lovely Island of ours. Hoping to have “Ireland here we come tour” stage two” the following month.
Putting this out there allows us time to consider the preparation etc that would be needed if we choose to cycle a multi day tour.

Orwell Touring /Adventure Cycling Group Update

The adventure-touring group now has 97 members. We are operating at max capacity at the moment due to the limited availability of leaders who can use navigational technology.

However, we are:
1 seeking experienced leaders who can use navigational devices.
2 opening a waiting list for non-leader members.

The Orwell Wheelers Touring and off-road have just completed a very successful 4-day cycle to Cork.

23 set out for Dundrum, with approx half the group camping on the route. We were very lucky with the weather and to have a support vehicle, and person Katheryn Keogh with us for the 4 days.
After the 450 km most people were happy to board the train home from Cork on Monday.

Here is a video compilation of pictures taken by members on the tour.

NOTE we are:
1 seeking experienced leaders who can use navigational devices.
2 opening a waiting list for non-leader members.

The Adventure/ Touring group leaders are running a second City Light Spin on Jan 1st 2021, this Saturday evening 7:30pm.

We set off from the Old Dundrum Shopping Centre car park.  The tour /spin lasts approx 3 hours.
Time permitting there are 20 locations where we can stop to admire the lighting installations.

We suggest people bring a flask  and a snack, for the trip, this  gives us the opportunity to be flexible with our break, and to reduce our contacts.

If you are interested click on the link below.

It was poignant, that we set off on our Touring/Adventure on the Royal Canal cycle today, the country’s thoughts centred around another canal, the Grand Canal, where the murder of Ashling Murphy took place.

Our group wore black ribbons in empathy with the family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ashling’s family.

The Adventure/Touring team,
Andrew, Kashif and Leonard.

Today on the canal the Longwood Community set up a prayer space for Ashling. We stopped and lit a few candles.

Hey Folks. There has been lots of interest, in our what's App group, about the next tour. Here's a (tentative) outline of the plan:

The goal is to do the next segment of our circumnavigation, from Cork, over a long weekend, using train stations as terminii. Given the (likely) weather, we'll go counterclockwise instead, from Killarney to Cork.

* Fri Feb 25: take the 7am train to Killarney (or get there the day before). Start rolling 11am. Scenic Kerry riding to Glengariff, 95km, including Gap of Dunloe, Moll's Gap, and Healy Pass. Optional shorter route, skipping Healy Pass, of only 60km. Hotel/BnB in Glengariff.
* Sat Feb 26: Sheeps Head and Mizen Head Peninsulae, ending in Skibbereen, 160km. Optional shorter route, skipping Sheeps Head Lighthouse, of only 110km. Hotel/BnB in Skibbereen.
* Sun Feb 27: WAWA coastal route to Kinsale, 115km. Option to press on another 35km to Cork.
* Mon Feb 28: Kinsale to Cork, 35km, take the train home.

This has us overnight in major towns, so lots of accommodation and fueling. Each day has a couple of distance options. One can hustle a bit and be at work Monday morning if needed. We're looking into potential options to transport bikes, and perhaps even luggage. The weather will probably be 'refreshing'.

If interested please join our what's app group
