Hi all
Tuesday night hills are back!
Every Tuesday night from now to August.
Meeting point : The yellow house, rathfarnam
Time 615pm sharp
Levels from yellow to red(usually 3 groups)

For the last 6 years the minute the clocks go forward it's always time for evening cycles and for us lot it means Tuesday night hills.

These spins are ideal training for everything from Wicklow 200 to racing and everything in between. Ideally suited from yellow to red level. Whites are welcome but you'll need to create a group and leaders on the night. All the groups are self lead and I'll nominate a few leaders on the nights. As always nobody ever gets left behind and we regroup at the tops of each major hill etc.
Early season usually means spins 40-50km approx 2 hrs with 800-1000m. As the nights light extends this stretches to 70-80km up to 3.5hrs and 1500m.
What you'll need to bring:
Food, ideally 2 bottles of water
Lights
Gear to suit the weather(can get cold on descents so winter gloves, hats, jackets etc advised. )
Full puncture repair ability and multi tool. Although the aim is to never leave anyone behind this sometimes can happen and you have to know how to change a tube etc by yourself.
Always bring a phone and some cash!
Above all bring an attitude that no hill is too steep to cycle over and the odd bit of rain is only there to keep you cool while you climb up the mountains!
We usually have 30-40 men and women of all levels turn up so there will always be someone faster and slower than you on the night.

This Tuesday March 29th 615
Meet yellow house
Route
Blue light hill to foxes. Then right to recce the pine forest tt route for next weeks club league entrants. Up to viewing point and down stocking lane. For those looking for a few more kms or metres climbed you can head up to the top of the featherbeds and back down again.
Approx 35km with around 700m of climbing. Should be back by 745.
All welcome to come! No need to post here just turn up.

Last week we seemed to run into some issues with traffic on the winding roads over to and on the Blue light climb. This is mainly due to the narrow and twisty nature of the road and the size of the group.

Nothing can be done about it on that route but would it be an idea to avoid these roads and instead head up to Foxes via Cruagh Road and across Pine Forest?

I'm going to skip the Enniskerry > Powerscourt > Liam Horner, and just go over the Featherbeds from the Devil's Elbow.

If anyone wants to join.

Hi All

As always meeting at Yellow House at 615pm. We will have a min of 3 groups heading out Yelow/Orange/Red. If anyone wants to lead a white group post up here.

Next week's route will be very very straight forward and impossible to get lost!
the weather looks provisionally very good so no better time to head to Kippure! Dublin and Wicklow's highest point at over 750m it towers above everywhere and provides a view that is truly breathtaking....
Cruagh-Viewing Point-Featherbeds-Sally Gap quarry Climb-Kippure and back the same route.
Kippure is a climb that most people have never done and a lot are in fear of. Don't be...apart from the last few 100ms it's a doable climb for everyone and the view is spectacular....
Ball park 60km with 1300+m of climbing. Don't forget your camera...the views are worth it alone
It will be getting dark on way home so bring lights!

See you all Tuesday

I'll turn back at the border atop the Featherbeds.

I don't mind sitting at the back of the Yellow group if anyone new is unsure of coming along, making the step up and testing their metal against the regulars. Simple goal of hanging in there for the 7 or 8km uphill.

A perfect night on the top of Wicklow/Dublin. Chapeau to all 30 who made it up to the mast especially those who made it up there for the 1st time....When weather is like that it's probably Ireland's greatest viewing point. Well done all

Thanks for posting that Eric - couldn't find the time yet to do so.

Great spin last night, really enjoyed it - but man, that last climb was a tough one!

Tomorrow night's Spin as always starts at 615 Yellow House.
I won't make it tomorrow as I'm laid up for a few days but my brother Darragh will be there to take the groups out.
Proposed route will be Cruagh-Viewing Point-Featherbeds-Down the Liam horner-Up the Wall-down into Enniskerry-up the Hill to Devils Elbow and up the Elbow to fox's home.
Fairly hilly around 50-55km 1000m
Have a great one

Tuesday nights as always meet at 615pm Yellow House. Apparently there were some of you who felt last week was too tough(Darragh and Rebecca)....to those I say rule 5!
Route this week will be the following:

-Yellow House-Stocking Lane-Viewing Point-Cruagh to Pine Forest-Fox's-Devils Elbow-Glencree-Feathebeds home
about 60km with 1000m

I may not be able to make it this week but Darragh will be there as always

See you out there!

I said it was cruel and unusual rather than too tough Mr Connolly. I'm greatly appreciative of all of your creative Tuesday routes!

I agree ms Byrne. I'll try from next week to make them tougher then:-)
I'll take that as a green light to toughen up Tuesday's from Rebecca!
