Irish National Youth Cycling Championships this weekend (18/19th August)

We have a strong team heading north this weekend to take part in the Irish National Youth Cycling Championships.

The event is taking place around the Dunloy/Ballymoney area and the time table is as follows:

Saturday 18th, 10am - TT
The first event is the Individual Time Trial a 4.7 mile (7.5km) U shaped course. This test begins outside the Primary School on the Bridge Road LHT onto the Glenbuck Road (Lower), LHT onto the Bellaghy Road to the finish in the centre of Dunloy where there will be a good crowd to welcome the riders. The first rider is off at 10.00am Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to Boys and Girls in the following categories…. U11/U12/U13/U14/U15/U16

Saturday afternoon: Road Race
The Road race is on the Glenbuck Circuit featuring a tough climb each lap through the finish line, the circuit is 6.5 miles (10.4km)
The race starts at the top of the Glenbuck climb at heads into the Long Mountain range above Rasharkin, a LHT onto the Mullan Road, then a LHT onto the Duneaney Road and descends towards the LHT onto the Killagan Road and immediately LHT onto the Bridge Road a rolling road and a LHT at the Bridge Bar onto the Glenbuck Road and the finish.

Sunday morning, Ballymoney - Town center circuit race
This is the same course as was used in 2014, a fast yet very technical challenge for the riders, 0.69 mile (1.1km) Starts of at the Ballymoney Museum on Townhead street then RHT onto Model School road, at the roundabout it is a sharp RHT (NOT round the roundabout as the map shows) onto High Street and a slight downhill to the LHT and sharp turn onto Linenhall Street, RHT onto Victoria Street and sharp RHT onto Church Street a narrow street and then RHT onto High Street and back to the start finish area, the pits area will be located at the High Street section and will be marked.

U16 : Conor
U15 : Caoimhe & Ronan
U14 : Annie
U13 : Katie
U12: Ryan & Killian
U11 : Luca, Oisin and Áine

Saturday 18th Aug: TT Results

230 youths entered the TT at the National Championships so understandably it has taken a while to get the results sorted! That is a phenomenal entry - the future of Irish Cycling looks bright:)

This morning saw the final part of the Irish National Youth Cycling Championships - the Criterium Stage in Ballymoney:
