Women's Racing

Orwell women have a growing presence in racing in the Dublin area and around the country, achieving and exceeding their goals at many different levels.

Tonight is the first round of the StickyBottle.com Orwell Women's Crit League, opening with a 10TT at Batterstown. It's a flat, simple out and back course - perfect to give time trialling a first try!

With the largest population of racing women in the country, Orwell are increasingly dominant on the domestic scene, and the tally of this year's results proves that beyond doubt!

This year's Rás na mBan saw past and present Orwell members involved at all levels, most significantly a full team of current club riders, and Joe Daly Cycles sponsored a composite team. We also had Isabel Cogan selected for Leinster, while former members Anne Dalton and Lydia Boylan were riding for Ireland. Monica Marconi won the Fedaia Veterans competition, and Cogan's Leinster team took home the top county prize.

The penultimate round of the Wheelworx Orwell Ladies Crit League was held at Corkagh Park last night. To spice up the action the races were run as Points races, with riders collecting points in a sprint every second lap. It was Bray Wheelers' Michelle Carter and Orwell's own Trish Buckley who amassed the most points in each race, and each climbed the division tables as a result - Buckley to silver, and Carter to take the lead.

The last evening of Spring was a pleasant one for round 4 of the Wheelworx Orwell Ladies Crit League, with some dramatic racing across both categories. Bray Wheeler's Michelle Carter and Sandra Fitzgerald of Garda CC took victory on the line.
