Darragh's early season was interrupted by injuries on and off the bike, but he has been making the most of his school holidays lately as he racks up the miles and the prizes across the country.

Long secured a very impressive overall victory in the Mark Mullen Memorial Drogheda League two weeks ago having raced the series in a group comprising some senior riders as well as some of Ireland’s top Under 16s.

He followed that up a week later with a stage win and a second place on his way to second overall against international opposition in the Under 14 class at the Mayo Youth Tour.

Enthusiasm unabated, Darragh rode to a fine third place in the club league epic handicap race to the top of Sally Gap last Thursday and by all accounts it was his driving efforts on the front which contributed in large part to the semi limit group staying away.

On Saturday Darragh took the gold medal in the 250 Metres Time Trial and bronze in both the Sprint and the Scratch races.

If that wasn’t enough he then dragged the bike out of the shed once again on Sunday morning to head to the Waterstown Park Youth races where he was given a one-off promotion to the Under 16 category and promptly soloed in for another impressive win.
