Postscript to DD-087-1040-Rathnew-ccw:
Climbophobes be warned. To get from Newtownmountkennedy to Ashford, going south and staying W of the N11, this route forces you on to a very vicious little climb designated on Google Maps as a continuation of the R772, about 2 km S of NTMK.
Thank you, Joe!

Another health warng - this time for DD-089-1066-Rathnew-ccw-No-N11, scheduled for 24 July.
Our Routemeister has devised ever more devious and devilish ways to spare us the horrors of the N11. About 7 km S of NTMK, this one veers sharply off the road marked on Google Maps as 'Temple Lane' (Lána an Teampaill) and quickly degenerates into a mass of gravel strewn over a totally unpaved boreen. My own feeling is, if you want to practise off-road, do it somewhere else and bring your MTB!

Thanks Tom

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea máxima culpa.

I will retire that route.

(Note to self. When you have a decent route, leave it alone. Dont keep tweaking it to pander to the anti N11 brigade).

I am flabbergasted at the Routemeister's chastened response. After my last attempt at route criticism, I was expecting a bollocking, aspersions on manhood, etc. And sure, what were a few metres of gravel anyway. But rest assured, Joe, that we still love you and will continue to follow the Route Gospel According to Fitz.

When we started the 2021 Summer Spins we said that there would be no organised spins at Bank Holidays. Therefore, no events are scheduled in RWGPS for the coming weekend.

2021 was the first year we organised formal Summer spins

125 people have been on club weekend spins over 10 Saturdays and 9 Sundays since mid May, riding about 23 different routes.

Numbers have been declining, which is to be expected at this time of the year, with people on holidays, weekend breaks, family events etc.

We are very grateful for the commitment of those who have volunteered to lead spins this Summer. However, it does not make sense to engage leaders for very small groups.

Therefore we will pause formal spins until we restart for Winter (probably 3rd October).

For the next few weeks I would encourage riders to leverage contacts made since May. Use the forum to organise informal spins. Use the club route library on RWGPS - or pick your own destination and how you get there. Maybe, just head out for a spin, swing past Dundrum to see if there is anybody else there, and hit the road.

The route is the same for Yellow and White
Its a flat 66km with coffee at Celbridge

Tthere are several coffee options in Celbridge
so it should be possible to avoid large groups at one location.

Leonard Kaye and Peter McGrath are white leaders so they can manage dispatch.
(it may make sense to split the groups differently in the morning).

Alternative to Joe's attractive proposal for Sat 28th: Anyone who like me missed the 110 km spin to Hollywood on Sat 21 & would like to take it in - how about 9 a.m. this coming Sat, (28th) at Dundrum, pale-mid Yellow? Post here if interested.
