Thanks Louise for getting all the results up so quickly!
It was damp all day with frequent showers making the roads very slippy. Thankfully it let up before the U16 race but it didn’t lead to no crashes! One crash in particular on the first lap caused the race to be stopped and restarted 25 minutes later.
Yesterday’s stage is the one that people always seem to underestimate it as it’s foreshadowed by the infamous Keelogues stage on the last day where there’s a 1-1.5km steep hill with an ‘Alpe D’Huez’ style atmosphere. I was happy to stay in with the group, feeling comfortable and most essentially, stay rubber side down!
Today we’ve got a draggy 3km TT in the morning/early afternoon. Later on we’ve got a crit around an industrial estate with, wait for it... 20 CORNERS!! Let’s hope the weather stays sunny as it is now... Both stages are new for this year.
Thanks, Andrew

Two great team prizes in Errigal this weekend:

First up a fantastic result for Andrew Ryan on his first time representing Ireland - Boys U16 team prize goes to Team Ireland!

Well done Andrew - the first of many prizes to come

The girls U16 team prize was won by Team Leinster who had 2 Scott Orwell’s racers on the team - Annie Roche & Caoimhe May. Well done to both riders - brilliant result.

EIYT 2019 done and dusted for my last year as a youth. It was a very early start today in a bid to get ahead of the rain, which thankfully all races avoided. Yesterday’s cancellation of the stage meant everyone was that bit fresher and we all knew the 8am race start wouldn’t deter fast racing. A shortened race schedule of four laps was in store for us U16’s incl. the infamous Keelogues each lap. The triple whammy it’s called for there’s KOM points half way up, a steep 400m (which everyone thinks is the top as it flattens momentarily as you turn onto the main road), followed by a drag up to the nondescript top. I was happy with finishing in the narrowed down bunch of c.25 riders today which probably bettered my GC position one or two spots.
It’s been a long but fun weekend thanks to my teammates on the youth academy (who together we won the team prize) and of course the Orwell riders representing various teams (Future Junior Tour 2020 team winners.) Thanks also to Stephen (thanks dad...) and John Fox who looked after me and all the Orwell team.
